Just CU celebrates 15 years & record year for loans


Just Credit Union recently celebrated their 15th Anniversary with an awareness day and fund-raising event in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support in The Square, Shrewsbury. Visitors to the stand were greeted by the Pink Panther, Just Credit Union’s apprentice, Caprice Bennett, who also met the Town Crier, Martin Wood.

Just Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial co-operative which currently has over 3,500 members who live or work in Shropshire or Telford and Wrekin. Established in October 2001, Just has had a record year for loans which are up by 20% on the previous 12 months to a total of £1.5 million.

In order to apply for a loan you must be a member of Just Credit Union* but you can complete both forms at the same time. Members’ savings and loans are both covered by free life insurance** at no additional cost and all savings are protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme up to £75,000 per individual.

Being a member also means you are a shareholder in the company and due a dividend on your savings from the profits made at the end of each year. Although this annual dividend cannot be guaranteed Just have paid their members a 2% dividend every year except one when it was1% in 2010.

Borrowing from Just Credit Union is a much cheaper option than many other high street or online lenders which helps people make their money go further. Research also shows that most Just members spend the money they’ve borrowed locally which helps the local economy, local services and local businesses.
