Just CU teams up with Telford CAB to help cut energy bills


Just Credit Union is teaming up with Citizens Advice Telford & the Wrekin to help people in the region save money on their energy bills. 

Telford Citizens Advice is delivering free Energy Best Deal Extra appointments across the region to give people access to private one-to-one advice meetings on energy efficiency in their local area and homes.

Steve Barras, Business Development and Marketing Officer of Shropshire and Telford community bank Just Credit Union said “We are delighted to be working with the Citizens Advice Telford to raise awareness of these very valuable sessions.

“I am sure people will benefit and encourage people to book a session as soon as possible as places are limited. 

“An Energy Best Deal Extra appointment may help you with finding the best deal and saving money on your bills, accessing grants for improvement, getting help for older, low-income or disabled customers and dealing with complaints or issues with suppliers. It may also help if people are struggling to pay bills.”

Caro Hart, Chief Officer, Citizens Advice Telford, said “Many people in our region are unnecessarily wasting cash on energy bills.  It only takes 20 minutes to check and it could save over £200 a year.

“This is an opportunity to receive help solving problems such as ‘why are my energy bills so high?’, ‘What can I save by switching providers?’, ‘I’ve got behind on my utility bills what can I do?’ and the sessions can help people find the best energy deals and more.

“We know people are often forced to make a choice between putting the heating on and being able to buy food.”

EBDx advice appointments will cover a range of areas, including:

● Understanding tariffs and switching tariffs

● Information about energy efficiency measures and grants

● Benefit entitlement checks for eligibility and applications for Warm Home Discount (WHD), rebates available from energy suppliers and the Priority Services Register

● Help to understand billing, meter readings and payment methods

● Advice on dealing with fuel debt, including accessing financial support to pay off fuel debts through charitable grants, and ongoing payment plans.
Citizens Advice has been delivering tailored one-to-one energy advice through the Energy Best Deal extra (EDBx) programme since 2012.
